Halloween and Dia de los Muertos – The Day of the Dead is here. Many parts of the world celebrate the thinning of the border between life and death. Never one to miss a party or thin a border, the Royal Society of Duffers joins in with pints and memes in the safety of a not-haunted pub. The old pub with its creaking floorboards, dripping faucet and drafty windows is a lovely establishment – even though a triple axe-murderer was found trying to hide his victims in the walls not one century ago. He was thwarted by the wall interiors already being stuffed full of the dead by notorious priestfinders in the 1500s. They had chosen the site as they knew the ancient Celts had once sacrificed rabid goats on its hearth to the god of death. That may explain the subsequent burial of curse tablets under its stones by the Romans. In any case, the pub serves a tasty blood pudding.
